Archaeological evidence dates back to ancient India reveals how the rock painting found in Mahadeo hills depicts honey collection from the nest of wild bees.
A renown Indian archaeologist Yashodhar Mathpal has discovered various painting in the rock caves in Bhimbetka, 20km south of Bhopal. It shows the evidence of hunting of rock bee colonies for honey.
According to him, the painting belongs to mesolithic or earlier period between 15000 – 11000 B.C.E along with the activities of the stone-age humans. This painting depicts the crude honey drawn from semicircular combs sometimes covered by bees.
